DFH Real Estate is now 50 years old! People often ask how the name came to be : actually the company was started by Dominic F. Hanley, whose company name was originally Saanich Realty. The company’s original location was on Quadra Street near Reynolds Road. In 1960, it moved to Douglas Street near the corner of Cloverdale. Somewjat later the company was known as D.F. Hanley Agencies. Ten years later a second location was opened on Shakespeare Street and then, in 1976, the two offices merged in a larger location on McKenzie Avenue and Shelbourne Street, and the company name was changed to DFH Real Estate after Mr. Hanley retired.

In 1985, the head office was built on Shelbourne Street and is still in use today. In addition, DFH Real Estate has offices in Sidney, the Westshore and in the Shawnigan Lake Village.
The Westshore office commenced in 1994 at the corner of Jacklin and Sooke roads. In 2005, it moved to its present location on Goldstream Ave. In 1995, DFH merged with Realty World Sidney with DFH, and in 1998, Coldwell Banker in Shawnigan Lake merged with DFH. All of the previous owner-operators are still with DFH and are outstanding contributors to its success.

Another outlet for the company’s successful track record is found at the Hillside Mall, where the attractive kiosk initiates hundreds of successful client-agent relationships each year.
DFH Real Estate is owned and operated by Mike Nugent, Kevin Sing and Peter Gaby who became shareholders in 2008. Previous to this, Brian Sharp was the owner operator since 1978 and is still active on the DFH board of directors. Brian left a stamp on the corporate culture that firmly implanted the Golden Rule philosophy which is being carried forward with the new ownership.
Mike Nugent is now the company’s Managing Director as well as sharing the Broker Manager duties with Susan Dunn. The company has always maintained an excellent example of community involvement, which is followed by the employees and agents here at DFH. The company supports its agents involved with communities sports and activities associations and has been an enthusiastic supporter and contributor by raising thousands of dollars for the CFAX Santa’s Anonymous, and the United Way of Victoria. DFH also sponsors its very own Child Find identification program.
